I founded the school in 1986 based at Lockington and Diseworth, located by Junction 24 of the M1. I teach young children and adults, both beginners and seniors up to professional level.
The classes for children take place at Lockington Village Hall and for the adult beginners and senior grades at Diseworth Village Hall. I also teach classes at Ratcliffe College, Leicester for the Junior Department. Over the years, I have taught many boys, some who have reached their advanced qualification.
The children learn classical ballet in the style of Cecchetti, which is taught at the Royal Ballet School. We have toddler beginners from the age of 3+. They are taught with a mixture of technique and storytelling to inspire creativity and enjoyment. There is a creative element in the other classes with some character work and use of scarves and ribbons along with some drama. The senior students and adults move to pointe work when they reach that level of strength and technique. I am currently working on a dance interpretation of ‘Peter and the Wolf’ and with the seniors, a modern version of ‘Cinderella’ as a drama performance. Pupils have enjoyed being part of some Gilbert and Sullivan operas, and a condensed dance drama version of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ They have also been part of my musical play, ‘Hello Mr Noah!’ which I wrote and directed. .
Many of my pupils have moved on to performing arts schools and some work professionally as dancers and actors. My aim is to inspire children with physical and mental confidence, to encourage good vocal and physical expression to enable good communication for life skills.
It is hoped that a new Drama class for young children will start on a Wednesday at Diseworth Village Hall in the near future. |
